Last Hurrah of Summer...Cape Cod Rail Trail...

As I mentioned in my last post, our campground was located right along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It runs 22 miles through several towns on Cape Cod and it provided us with hours (and miles!) of entertainment!

The first morning we were there I took Harper for a walk in the stroller while Adam rode his bike up ahead. It was a great way to start the day and about a mile in we even came across some beautiful water views (not the ocean but still beautiful). We even had a nice old man offer to snap a picture for us.

Later that afternoon when we decided to head out on a family bike ride we noticed that Andy had a blown tire so it was off to a local bike shop (plenty of those on the Cape) for a repair. While there we inquired about used bikes and sure enough they had the perfect bike for Adam - hand brakes and gears - he was in heaven! It was the perfect early birthday present for him. He really had outgrown his old bike.

With his new bike Adam was now all about riding and so while Harper would nap in the mornings, Adam and I would hit the trail. We logged at total of 45 miles riding that trail and I loved every second of it - even when we got caught in the rain.

One day when we decided to ride to the end of the trail (Adam's decision) we saw a police officer standing in the parking lot. He approached Adam and handed him a "ticket." It was a reward for wearing a helmet and was good for a free ice cream cone at a few of the local shops (again, plenty of those on the Cape). It was such a cool thing and Adam certainly enjoyed riding his bike one afternoon to cash in on that reward. (It wasn't the only time we'd ride bikes for ice cream)

I'll cherish the time we spent riding bikes on that trail for a long time - it is such a fun (non electronic!) way to spend time as a family and it added so much scenery, activity, and joy to our trip.

It didn't hurt that almost five times per ride Adam would declare "this is the coolest bike ever!!" A happy early birthday present indeed!
