Virginia Tech Weekend...

It had been three years since we'd been down to Blacksburg for a football game so we knew we had to get down there this fall. Looking at the schedule we picked the Old Dominion game and thanks to a colleague at Andy's work we scored two tickets (Andy is happy to hang back at the camper with Harper - trust me). We were all so excited and we were counting down the days until our big Hokie weekend.

We started our weekend early on Thursday and made it about halfway to Blacksburg and stopped at the Walnut Hill KOA where we've stayed several times before. It's a beautiful campground with amazing views. We had fun walking around and Adam enjoyed the park. We were also within a couple miles of the Edelweiss Restaurant where I grew up eating on our way back to Wintergreen from Hokie football games so it's always fun to go as it brings back great memories. Turns out both our boys are big weinerschnitzle fans so that was a bonus! After dinner we enjoyed the gorgeous views of the sky after sunset and just sat around the fire looking up at the starry sky.

The next morning we got an early start and hit the road for Blacksburg. I love that excited feeling I still get upon seeing the VT sign on 81 - it really does feel like heading back home. We did our typical Walmart shopping and then headed to the golf course to score our tailgating site for the weekend.

There really is nothing like getting to sleep on campus. The boys had so much fun playing soccer, running around, playing corn hole and chasing the dogs. Adam made a ton of friends and wound up playing probably 5+ hours of football.

Saturday morning we were up early and we took a walk across campus with breakfast at Gilley's as our intended destination. Such a walk down memory lane passing the Duck Pond and my old dorm. After an amazing breakfast we took the kids to the Drillfield to run around a bit. We got a nice surprise when the Highty Tighties marched past playing the fight song - couldn't have planned it better myself!

Then it was back to get our tailgate started. Adam played more football, Harper ran around, and the dogs continued to make friends as well.

Before we knew it it was time for Adam and me to head to the stadium for the game. Adam was so spirited the whole way there randomly yelling out "Let's Go!!!" and waiting for someone to respond "HOKIES!" - which he succeeded a few times - he got quite a kick out of that. The energy in the stadium was electric, even for a non-division match-up. Adam and I started jumping as soon as we heard "Enter Sandman" and we hardly stopped cheering, except for a few runs to the concession stand (yes, I used treat bribery as a way to get Adam to stay through the end of 3rd quarter - to be fair, it was pretty toasty that day). Our beloved Hokies came out on top with a 38-0 victory!

We then enjoyed an evening of celebrating the victory - a wonderful weekend spent in our home away from home at our home away from home - Let's GO! HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!
