Into the woods...again...

We spent another non-spring, spring weekend in the great outdoors, enjoying the non-spring, spring weather. There really is nothing more relaxing after a long week than pulling up a chair around a campfire...

Love spending time with the family at the camper...

Some bursts of sunshine...

For as wacky as this March has been, we have had some decent days filled with afternoon sunshine and milder temps and you can bet we've taken advantage!  We are now within walking distance of the dinosaur park (remember this?) and have made several treks over there to soak up the random spurts of spring...

Not sure what Adam likes best, the time at the park or the walk that includes three bridges!?

Happy Birthday Roomie...I mean Dad/Grandpa!

Birthdays used to be a great excuse to get the family together for dinner, of course now we have dinner together as a big family every night, but that didn't make Grandpa's birthday any less special.

Adam and Olivia got to help make the birthday cupcakes, which I have to say were some of the best I've ever had! Chocolate cake with crushed thin mints and a little creme de' mint to add some extra minty pleasure and then oreo cookie frosting....wowza!

Adam and Olivia were great present presenters and they both even picked out the gifts they gave to Grandpa (a golf shirt from Adam and a stuffed teddy bear from Olivia, because, you know, even Grandpa's should have stuffed bears to sleep with...duh!).

It was a a great celebration for a GREAT grandpa/dad/roomie! ;)

Morning at the farm...

I took Adam on a little "Adam & Mommy" date a few weekends ago. We beat the crowds and arrived bright and early to Frying Pan Park to wish a happy morning to all of the animals. There were lots of babies, a sign of spring I suppose...

Adam loved having the place practically to himself which meant he could ride on all of the tractors without having to wait in line, and without anyone in line behind him urging him to get off after five seconds. It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning, just a Momma and her babe....

A puppet show...

While we were camping I asked Adam to come up with a puppet show that he could perform for us after dinner.  So he took his puppets into his "room" in the camper and worked out a story and rehearsed, then when dinner still wasn't ready, he rehearsed some more.  After dinner he rehearsed one more time, laid his blanket on the floor (this was to be the "carpet" for us to sit on) and closed the current to his "room."  At last, it was show time...and what a show he put on...

I laughed and I'm not going to lie, had a few tears as well.  Not a day goes by that this sweet boy doesn't do something to amaze me and this performance was one of those moments...Bravo Adam!

Back to the Great Outdoors!

We've been on quite a camping hiatus this winter, mostly due weekends spent packing and moving, but we finally got back out there last weekend for a much overdue camping trip.  We didn't travel far, but the great thing I've learned in this past year of camping adventures is that even camping in the middle of Reston can feel like you are far away from home.

The weather was a bit warmer allowing for lots of outside play time.  We even had Kathleen & Olivia over for breakfast around the campfire. Those cousins sure do love spending time together!

Adam and Liddy were both exhausted by the end of our trip having spent the better part of Saturday chasing each other around.  It was the perfect weekend getaway and we're looking forward to warmer temperatures and more camping trips as we welcome spring!

Snow Day!?

March is such a weird and frustrating month.  Always enter into it hoping for warm weather and am always surprised when it's still cold. Will I ever learn? Probably not...

While I wasn't thrilled with snow in March, I know one little guy that couldn't have been happier to wake up to find he was off the hook for going to school because it was a SNOW DAY!

I'll admit, while I wasn't loving the snow, seeing Adam's face light up made it all seem worth it...the hot chocolate also helped...
