Camping at Lake Anna...

We always look forward to when our Virginia State Parks open for the season and try to book an opening weekend site at Lake Anna State Park each March. This year we had a site booked but that weekend we had some crazy storms and wind blow through that would not have made for safe travel or safe camping so we pushed our weekend out a month and instead headed down there in April. It actually worked out in our favor as the weather was gorgeous while we were there and we had lots of great springy sunshine - and very little wind - a camper's dream scenario!

We had one of our favorite sites which is tucked away nice and far from the road and has ample wooded space all around it for the dogs to just run and play. The kids also had so much fun exploring the woods and going on "adventures" together. It really is fun to watch Adam and Harper camping this year as compared to last as Harper is so much more able to be a participant and Adam will admit he does enjoy having a buddy to play with - even if he is a trouble maker at times.

Our days were spent hiking down to the lake, enjoying picnics, riding bikes around the campground (you should have seen Harper pedal those little legs on his tricycle trying desperately to keep up with Adam), visiting our friends Paul & Ashley who recently moved down to the lake, and just relaxing by the fire.

A highlight of our trip was all about Liddy (& Sadie too against her will, haha). We took Liddy down to the cabins where we spent many awesome vacations pre-camper (and pre-kids for that matter) so that she could go swimming. I'll never forget how she nearly jumped out of the truck as she caught site of Cabin #4 - she knew exactly where we were and it was all we could do to keep her from breaking free to jump in that lake. Once we got down to the docks she was in that water in a heartbeat - before I even had a chance to get my phone out to catch her first jump. She was right where she belongs - swimming to her heart's content. Sadie took some coaxing - ok she took being thrown in by Andy - to swim - and boy was she funny looking trying to figure out how to stay afloat - but I think she secretly enjoyed it.

Happy and wet pups for the win!

Another awesome Lake Anna weekend in the books and we can't wait to go back again this summer.
