Well, we finally did it. We finally convinced another family member to try out using a camper! Three family members to be exact. This meant that for our annual Virginia Tech weekend we would have Uncle Mark, Aunt Kathleen, Olivia (and Holly!) tagging along with their very own home on wheels. Of course, I had to tow it for them - but I was happy to do it - and our long weekend of camping, everything Hokies, Virginia at it's fall "peakness," fun was one for the books (or blog...)
As per usual we started our journey with an overnight at the Walnut Hills campground. Adam was crossing his fingers that even though it was November 1 they would still have the "corn" maze up - and they did! We had great sites right on the water and the colors of fall were all around.
We spent a ton of time outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather. We played at the park and tackled that maze a few times - with a few of us leaving victorious. We had a great campfire going and cooked steaks over the grill - we had to show our "green horn" campers how fabulous it can really be!
It was the perfect start to our Hokie weekend but the best was yet to come...
Even though our house was already filled with candy from our previous "trick-or-treating" adventures there was no way the boys were going to skip participating in the real deal! We even came up with a second round of costumes. A fireman for Harper (with his trusty firehouse dalmatian - Grandma!) and a skeleton for Adam (he's past the age of allowing me to come up with "cute" or "themed" costume ideas...sigh.)
We joined up with the neighborhood kids for a fun night of collecting more candy while the dads hung out on the driveway around a little fire as they passed out treats. Harper of course had to try and put out the fire - he was the fire chief for goodness sake.
By the end of the night we had more candy than anyone knew what to do with - and some sleepy trick-or-treaters!
Another successful Halloween in the books...
I think Halloween is quickly becoming one of our favorite times of year - second of course to Thanksgiving/Christmas of course! That said, Halloween really seems to be taking off lately and it's become almost a month long event. Our Halloween started at the beginning of October during our Williamsburg weekend and we got to experience another festive camping weekend at Bull Run at the end of the month.
The weather was nice and crisp and we enjoyed just spending time out in the woods, playing at the park, going for walks, campfires, etc before the real fun began.
The park had all kinds of things planned and we decided to go all in! We decorated our camper (though now where near as creatively as some of the others!)...
We dressed up in costumes...
We handed out candy to trick-or-treaters....
We were trick-or-treaters...
Harper participated in the Halloween "egg" hunt...
Adam was a zombie for the Haunted Hay Ride...
Wow! What a weekend! We had so much fun and we can't wait to make that weekend at Bull Run a new family tradition. Maybe next year we'll step up our camper decorating game - 8 months to plan!
