Camping in the snow...

While I had my Girl Scout reunion Andy was off having his own little boy "scout" camping trip. They headed back out to Bull Run for the night and I joined them the next day. We all woke up Saturday to snow and I couldn't' wait to get out to the campground to see our camper in the snow for the first time.

It sure was beautiful but it does have it's negatives in that it makes it kind of wet and messy to be outside. Luckily we had plans to visit Ommy & Poppy's house for a belated birthday celebration for Andy. We spent much of the day there were the kiddos all pitched in to help make Andy's birthday lunch and the cousins also got a chance to play out in the snow together. It was a fun celebration and a good excuse to be in a big warm house during the snow.

Once we got back to the campground the snow had stopped falling and we were really able to enjoy it at that point. Andy and I even got in a walk around the campground and the snow was the perfect backdrop to the festival of lights that was still going on.

In the morning the views out out bedroom window were spectacular. It never ceases to amaze that we can look out that window at any time during the year and see an ocean, a lake, thick woods, open countryside, or in this case, snow covered trees. Camping really is the best! Of course Al was a little sad that the snowman he had made and brought inside had melted - the perks (and downside for Frosty in this case) of having a warm camper in the middle of the snowy woods.

Before we packed up to head home we did take an early morning hike through the snowy woods and it was magical.
