Our wonderful weekend in Blacksburg continued on Saturday. Sadly the weather wasn't ideal but we made the most of it! As per usual we had been the first to arrive at the golf course parking lot on Friday (after a quick stop for sandwiches at Macadoos of course) and so we got our favorite spot with gorgeous, uninhibited views of what used to be the #1 fairway. We love that set-up and were happy to use our VT corn hole boards for the first time at Tech. Needless to say we felt like we were finally legit alumni tailgaters! :)
With a Noon start to the VT v. Boston College game, we had to get to tailgating early. So it was blood marys for me, mimosas for Andy, milk for Adam and a scrambled egg skillet & smoked wings for sustenance. The drizzly rain was cold, but didn't keep us from still enjoying the outdoors, lots of corn hole matches and of course our fire.
Soon it was time for Adam and I to head to the game (Andy decided he'd prefer to stay back and watch around the campfire). While we were bummed not to have Andy with us, the plus side was that he was then able to drive us to the stadium - which helped us avoid a puddle and mud riddled mile and a half walk. Warm and dry feet for the win!
The weather cleared up a bit - rather dried up a bit - in time for kick-off. Adam and I jumped our little hearts out when "Enter Sandman" came on and we cheered loud for the orange and maroon! Sadly our cheers didn't help the team pull off a victory - BUT - Adam did make the jumbotron at the beginning of the 3rd quarter so we'll consider that victory enough!
After the game we drowned our sorrows in some retail therapy, a walk on the drillfield, some golf practice, a few hands of "Go Fish," and some pumpkin carving.
Even with the loss a weekend spent in Blacksburg cheering on the Hokies is always a winner in my book!

"Hokie Hokie Hokie High, Tech Tech VPI!"
It's one of my favorite new traditions we have, our annual trip to Blacksburg for Hokie football! We were especially excited this year because of our new camper and as a bonus a bunch of my buddies and old roommates were also going to be down the same weekend. Score!
We decided to let Adam stay home (and warm!) with Grandma and Grandpa which allowed us to get in a round of golf on the Tech course. Talk about memories! Andy and I did a lot of our dating on that golf course, so always fun to go back and relive the awkward conversations and random competitions we'd set up.
Lunch was Macadoos, seriously the best sandwiches and dinner would have been Sharkeys if it hadn't been so crowded. Instead we headed to a new place, the Tap House, where two of my best college buds, John and Dave were hanging out. It was great to all be back together again and we enjoyed reminiscing about how we had me (13 years ago!!) at the bus stop our first night as Freshman. Couldn't have made it through my time there without them, and frankly wouldn't have wanted to.
Game day had everyone up bright and early with grills fired up, mimosas, bloody marys, and I suppose quite a few beers for some, and by 9:00 everyone was well into tailgate mode.
Sadly, VT was unable to pull off a win in overtime to conference rival Maryland, but everyone still returned from the game in good spirits and ready for tailgate part deux! :)
Nothing beats a fall football weekend in Blacksburg, regardless of the outcome, and we'll look forward to heading back next year, and I think we'll bring our little Hokie with us, who knows, maybe he'll be up for a round of golf by then! :)

Tailgating on the fairway...
I love that we get to park our camper on what used to be the #1 hole of VT's golf course. I've mentioned it before that Andy and I had some of our very first dates on that golf course, so the fact that we now get to camp there and still hit some golf balls makes it the much more special when we visit.
We had a great set up and because we were there so early we were able to get the last spot giving us that much more room to spread out and more importantly, more room for Adam and Liddy to run around.
We enjoyed great fires in the evening and even made some friends. Adam is still talking about his new girlfriend, Kayla. They live not too far away so we are looking forward to getting together for play dates soon.
Since it was Homecoming weekend they had lots of events planned including a parade and an alumni tailgate at the new (well, ok 6 year old) alumni center and hotel. Adam loved the parade and while he got lots of waves and smiles from the sorority girls, Liddy seemed to solicit the most "oooohhs" and "aaaaahhhs." She did look adorable with her VT scarf.
The alumni tailgate was a highlight as well, of course anytime there is free food, free beer, free VT swag and live music you really can't go wrong. Bonus was that the alumni tailgate took place about 100 yards from our campsite, so we promptly moved from one tailgate to the next.
We didn't go too crazy with ours, just a few appetizers, a few frosty beverages and lots of football tossing and of course, golf ball hitting.
I think Adam and Liddy's first Hokie tailgate was a success!
