Spring Break...away we go...

We couldn't believe another spring break was upon us. Since it was a little later in April this year we decided to just stay in Virginia and hope for warm weather. We had plans to spend half of the trip at First Landing State Park down near Virginia Beach and to then finish out the trip and Easter weekend at our traditional spot - the Williamsburg KOA - where Mark, Kathleen & Olivia would be joining us.

Since we would be near water for much of our trip we decided to take two cars so that we could bring the boat with us. The neighbors must think we're crazy as we pack up for these adventures. To break up our drive to Virginia Beach we booked a site just north of Williamsburg at a new campground for us - Rockahock Campground. It was right on the Chickahominy River and had a boat launch as well - so it was the perfect spot to kick off our trip. The sites weren't anything to write home about but we made the most of it - throwing the frisbee for the dogs, digging in the dirt, and playing catch whilst watching The Masters - not too shabby.

We did get out on the boat as well - which at first we thought was in jeopardy as it was raining a bit - but once the skies cleared we enjoyed some jaunts out on the river.

That evening we realized there was going to be a great spot to catch a sunset - one of my favorite things to do - and we were not disappointed. Turns out that was just the first of many we'd see during this trip.

Before spending some time around a campfire we let Adam ride his bike to the campstore to pick out ice cream for Harper and himself - he's getting so old - he loved being able to take responsibility for that and of course Harper loved that his big brother brought him an ice cream!

Spring Break 2019 was off to a great start!
