Post Christmas Road Trip....Charleston, SC

We didn't have plans to travel after Christmas - but that's never stopped us before. Since I didn't have to travel overseas on New Year's it was the perfect opportunity for us to get out of dodge and a good excuse to keep the post Christmas blues at bay. With a quick call in to my buddy Shon who lives in Charleston we secured an invite to stay at his house for a few nights then we booked a cabin at the Myrtle Beach KOA so we could also sneak in a visit to Don and Mae Mae. So we packed up the truck and hitched up the boat (this was a sans camper - shocking I know - road trip) and headed on our way.

We had such a great time in Charleston and we enjoyed some pretty decent weather as well. Shon lives on Wando Creek in Mount Pleasant - a suburb of Charleston. His house had everything the kids could want - a game room, a huge backyard, video games, a drum set (oh boy) and for Harper - a fire truck to ride in.

It was also a dream for Andy - a backyard dock with a place to tie up our boat, plenty of room for target practice (and fun new BB guns that of course Shon has in spades), and a backyard fire pit where he got to sit around talking to Shon (they have a ton in common) until all hours of the night.

One morning we headed over to the Isle of Palms for brunch and a visit to the beach. The weather was overcast but mild and dry - better than when we'd visited the year before for spring break - and the boys loved getting to run around on the beach and say hello to the ocean.

We also got a lot of use out of the boat. We even found a cool spot to beach the boat so we could let the dogs run around and we also did some shark teeth hunting - turns out what we found were just rocks but we got excited there for a bit.

It was a fun visit and I'm always grateful to have a friend like Shon whom I met through work back in 2006 and while we don't get to see one another all that often I consider him to be one of my best friends - happy that Andy and the boys get to have him as a friend too!
