Spring Break 2018 - Charleston, SC...

We were a little sad to leave our amazing campsite in Wilmington but our destination made it a little easier to say farewell. Charleston, SC is one of my favorite places and it had been awhile since we'd been back there as a family (see here & here)- and it was a first time visit for Harper! Bonus - I drove us/the camper there - good practice Andy says.

We stayed at the Mount Pleasant KOA. It was an awesome campground with some really gorgeous sunsets - well....at least the first night we were there it was gorgeous, it pretty much was rainy and cloudy the other days - boo. Rain aside the campground did have a lot of great places for the kids to play, Adam made friends (of course) and we even ran into a high school friend of mine who just happened to be camping there as well - small world!

One bonus about Charleston is one of my really good work friends lives down there - in fact in the neighborhood right across the street from the campground - so we were happy to get to spend some time with him and his daughter (Adam and Madison became friends when we visited in 2014 - see here - they've gotten older but they had so much fun at the park together we never had a chance to snap an updated pic.)

The weather was kind of a bummer - but we still had a nice time going out for a low country brunch & then checking out the beach area on the Isle of Palms.

Andy gifted himself his very own "old lady" bike at this adorable custom bike shop in downtown Charleston and let me tell you - he rides it with pride - and a much more comfortable rear! :) We had some sunny weather our last day there that allowed for some bike riding and exploring downtown - such a beautiful city.

While Harper napped on our last day I snuck Adam over to the USS Yorktown, where my friend actually works - his company uses the ship as its headquarters and offers training courses, etc. on there - pretty neat. So Adam got a little behind the scenes tour of the Captain's Quarters and then he loved getting to do the flight simulator ride. We also toured the Vietnam War exhibit which I had never done during previous visits to the Yorktown - it was very well down.

Weather aside we still enjoyed our visit to Charleston but it was time to get moving on to our next stop....Myrtle Beach...
