The day after Thanksgiving instead of rushing to get the Christmas decor up we decided to meet up with our friends, Mike & Laura, for a weekend of camping back at Bull Run. I'll admit, part of me felt like it was weird that I wasn't pulling out the decoration boxes but a bigger part of me loved the idea of sneaking off to the woods and relaxing with family and friends after the hustle and bustle of our Thanksgiving festivities.
We had great weather - not too cold - and were able to spend lots of time outdoors. The kids had fun playing in the leaves, going for walks and riding bikes. We even got to watch the Hokies take on UVA while enjoying the warmth of the campfire and it just so happens that Mike & Laura are also Hokies - so we had a nice cheering section. Oh, and of course they won - 14 years in a row now!
We also introduced Mike & Laura and their cutie pie kids, Elliott & Paige to the fun that is geocaching. We hunted one down in the woods near our camp sites and it was probably the coolest one yet - hidden not on the ground but up in a tree - how clever. The kids all got a kick out of the search and I think we've officially made "gecoachers" out of Elliott & Paige.
It really was the perfect way to wrap up our Thanksgiving - lots of snuggles, jumping in leaves, re-purposing Thanksgiving leftovers and cooking over the fire, and just enjoying the fresh air before diving into the Christmas season.
It just might be a new Thanksgiving tradition...
