Wintergreen - Hodge Podge...

Since the 4th was on a Friday this year, it meant we had a whole weekend afterwards to enjoy Wintergreen and all the fun activities it offers.

Andy hit the links for a second round of golf with my parents, while the rest of us went to Lake Monocan for a dip and a picnic.

We spent time at the pool and enjoyed hanging out on the deck with spectacular temperatures to boot!

To top it off we got to celebrate my aunt Anne's birthday!! She seems to make it to a lot of our birthday celebrations, so it was fun to finally be able to reciprocate! We hit up Wintergreen Winery for a little afternoon wine tasting then enjoyed a great BBQ dinner & cupcakes. Happiest of birthdays to you Anne!!! :)

A Week in the Mountains

Somewhat on a whim we decided to pack up and head to the mountains for an unspecified amount of time.  Maybe we'd stay the weekend, maybe we'd stay a few extra days, maybe we'd stay all week. The beauty, we didn't really have to decide. One of the highlights of working from home is being able to work from a mountain home and with Andy's vacation days piling up, a few days off could be spent home or away. So we packed our bags and hit the road ready to be back in the mountains (where we hadn't been since Thanksgiving!)

Our first stop, as always, was a picnic at Wintergreen Winery. We were greeted with lots of smiles from our favorite tasting room crew. They oohed and aahed over how big Adam is getting and promptly got us set up with a nice chilled bottle of Viognier to enjoy out by the creek.

Unfortunately while we were picnicking we noticed Adam was starting to act a little "off." Instead of running around like he usually does we turned and noticed he was just sitting on a bench staring at the creek, we chalked it up to being a little car sick, but we found out two days later that in fact he was coming down with Croup!

Good news, he was able to see a great doctor at the bottom of the mountain and the pharmacy right next door had just what he needed.  After two days of taking it easy he was "right as rain" as we like to say and just in time to enjoy the 4th of July! :)

More on that later...

Thanksgiving week at Wintergreen...

Being able to work from home has a lot of perks, one of which being that I was able to spend the week at Wintergreen with the family, but was still able to work and save vacation days.

We had great weather the whole week and while I didn't get to spend as much time out and about enjoying the mountain, I did get in a trip to the Wintergreen Winery, which makes any visit to moutain a success!

Andy and Adam got a few trips in to the park and Andy even got in a round of golf with my mom.  Not to mention all the wood he chopped! Not often you see Andy just sitting down and relaxing, but that's the way he likes it!

We enoyed some great meals leading up to the big turkey feast and Adam even rolled up his sleeves to help me make some snacks throughout the week.

It was a great, productive yet relaxing, holiday week!

Happy 7th Birthday Liddy!!

We were at Wintergreen for Liddy's birthday (as we often are) and made sure that she had a great day!  We spent some time letting her run around at Wintergreen Winery, chasing after sticks and rolling around in the leaves.

She got to enjoy some pumpkin bread with peanut butter frosting which had her licking her chomps and we rounded out the day with a few gifts, a new stuffed bear and a big bone!

Another great birthday for a great little Liddy Poppins!

Kickin' off Memorial Day Weekend...

After many, many, many months of renovations and repairs to our family's Wintergreen house we were finally able to head back up the mountain to enjoy the long weekend in the woods.

We started our weekend the only way we know how, a picnic at Wintergreen Winery.  We very much looked forward to getting back to our favoirte vineyard and were greeted by the same smiling faces that recongized our longer than normal abscence.  They had new wines for us to taste and after settling on a chilled bottle of their famous Thomas Nelson White, we headed outside for a picninc lunch.

Adam and Liddy had fun, as always, chasing each other around their big open fields.  The creek was running as well which adds the perfect backdrop to a great start to a holiday weekend.

Apparently it's not just the wine that will make you want to take a nap...all that chasing around seems to have had the same affect! ;)
