A Good Day...

What Andy might call an "over scheduled" day, I like to think Adam and I prefer to call them "good" days. What's better than an early morning bike ride to get fresh baked bread for breakfast and a visit to the caboose in Old Town Herndon?

Followed by a birthday party for one of Adam's best friends, Tim Tims with a moon bounce and pirate theme to boot!?

Then to top it all off an afternoon water play date with Blake and a grilled pizza dinner ala Erica?

I'll take a million days like that, and at the end of the day, even Andy would agree it was a good day!

Happy Father's Day!

It's fair to say that Andy, Adam and I all lucked out in the dad category so it's great that we have a day (or in our case a couple days) to celebrate them! Between BBQ luncheons, fresh oysters from the Farmer's Market, and a roasted lamb dinner, all the dads got that special treatment they deserve as a "thank you" for all they do! Of course Andy gets the bonus of having handmade cards and crafts to enjoy, there's really nothing better!

Happy Father's Day Dad, Poppy & Andy, you all are the BEST! :)

Recreating a Memory...

My Uncle Thom was the coolest uncle you could ask for. His imagination and creativity made for summers filled with new games to play in the pool each one accompanied by a rule book the size of "War and Peace." His stories were legendary with shark sightings evolving over the years into shark attacks and a lost leg (humor to battle the actual loss of a leg due to diabetes). You'd always want to be on his team during a round of Pictionary as his artistic skills were top notch rivaled only by Aunt Anne. So it's no surprise that a day at the beach would prove to be just as fun, creative, and artistic! Hence the picture below from probably the year 1983ish?

Sadly Uncle Thom was taken from us far too soon and before even Andy or Adam could meet him, but that doesn't mean his spirit doesn't live on and the stories will certainly continue to be shared and of course embellished upon. In an attempt to share a little of Uncle Tom with Adam I tried to recreate the beach scene from years ago and while it certainly doesn't compare I'm sure in Thom's book it would have received a thumbs up.

Flying High at Funland!

Adam's memory never ceases to amaze me, suppose he takes after me in that regard. Even though it had been a year since our last visit to the Delaware shore, Adam had not forgotten about the fun place with all the rides.  That place would be Funland and it was definitely on our beach weekend "to-do" list, Adam insisted on it and we were happy to oblige.

He went round and round on the swings...

Flew an airplane...

Drove a truck...

Captained a boat...

Braved the Ferris Wheel all on his own...

Convinced me to ride what should be called the "stomach dropper"...

Rode a horse...

And slept that night like a champ!

Sunsets on the Delaware Shore...

In my mind there is no better way to end the day than by watching the sunset. We don't often get this opportunity as the sun sets behind a bunch of tall trees at home so we take advantage of watching the day come to its beautiful end we can can.

Luckily the Delaware Shore State Park offers amazing views of the sunset and though we had one night filled with clouds we did have one clear evening that allowed for us to take in the view as a family.

Adam even waved goodbye to the sun...

Beachin' It!

A couple weekends ago we loaded up the camper and hit the Delaware shore for a few days. We had (mostly) good weather with a few rain drops that simply encouraged indoor activities, like teaching Adam how to play Go Fish!

Adam, of course, loved being back at the beach. We spent most of our days building sand castles, digging holes, walking up and down the beach and putting our toes in the icy water (brrrr, when will it warm up?)

We cooked up fresh seafood while Adam continued to play in the sand/dirt outside the camper. All that dirt and sand and freedom to make a mess sure does make Adam a happy camper! :)

There's really nothing like spending a weekend with sandy toes, sticky sunscreened skin, salty air, and family!
