Happy Father's Day!

"Walk a little slower, Daddy," said a little child so small. "I'm following in your footsteps and I don't want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast, sometimes they're hard to see; So walk a little slower Daddy for you are leading me.

Someday when I'm all grown up, you're what I want to be.  Then I will have a child who'll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right, and know that I was true; So walk a little slower, Daddy, for I must follow you!"

-That's what was written in the card that Adam made for his Dad on Father's Day and I don't think it could have been said any better.

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there!

US Open

On Saturday, after watching most of the golf coverage on both Thursday and Friday, we got to go see the live version at Congressional Country Club. I had tickets because I was supposed to be volunteering, but then my committee got disbanded, so I kept the clothes (see below) and took the tickets...it kind of worked out. :)

We were able to snag two more tickets from a colleague of my dad's (for free) and a parking pass (for free) so Andy and I invited our brother-in-law, John, along and spent the day watching (ok, maybe I was stalking) our favorite players.

Since we wanted to get out there early, we didn't get to see some of the final round guys on the actual course, but we were sure to catch a glimpse of Rory on the putting green.

The practice range and putting green were actually great spots to watch these guys.  It is amazing to see how effortless they make it look (though I know from experience it's not!)

We did follow Dustin Johnson around the course a bit and also spent some time in the stands behind the 10th green.  I kind of liked that part the best as you could watch them play the entire hole.   Not quite as awesome as it would be to sit behind the green on 17 at TPC Sawgrass, but 10 at Congressional is still an impressive (and daunting) hole.

Just to name a few of the notables we saw (mostly so I can remember down the road)...

Somehow in all the excitement we missed scoping out McDowell and Kaymer, which I was bummed about, but, there's always next time...in 15 or so years when the championship comes back to DC...maybe Adam will be playing in it as an amateur...yeah, that sounds good. :)

Deck swimming?!

Adam got do a little swimming on Grandpa's deck the other day and even though it wasn't a big pool, he still had a lot of fun.

Grandpa and I couldn't stop laughing as Adam kept pouring buckets of water on his face.

Of course I think he knew he was putting on a show...

Summer fun!

Happy Retirement Momma!

The family has been keeping secrets from Mom...lots of secrets. BUT, they all came out yesterday when we surprised her at school for a Hawaiian themed retirement celebration!

Adam and Olivia were the guests of honor...well, aside from Mom of course.

There were lais, and mini-pineapple upside down cakes, and (virgin) pina coladas, and fruit salads, and lots of dishes with coconut.

It was the start of Mom's never-ending vacation...and I think she loved it!

What I loved....seeing how many people adore and respect and admire my Mom...I mean, how could you not?

Silly Adam...

When Adam wants to turn on the charm there is no stopping him!  We were at Grandpa (Beepaw) and Grandma's (Meemaw) house on Friday and he was hamming it up for the camera.  I think mostly he was just happy to be sitting in "Beepaw's" big chair!

He was also being extra adorable reading an "Olivia" book.  I think he misses his cousin!

What a ham!!

Pool Days...

The weather around here has been HOT, HOT, HOT, so to cool off after school/work, Adam and I have been heading to the pool before dinner.

Adam is LOVING it and again, this kid has no fear when it comes to the water (blessing and curse?) He likes to walk around the baby pool and dump buckets of water on his head. He also likes when I sit in one corner of the pool and he sits in the other. He also doesn't seem to mind when he sits right in the middle of the pool, which by the way is deeper than the edges and thus his head is under water. See what I mean about having no fear?

He also loves getting to spend some time in the big pool. In fact once he gets bored with the baby pool he'll tug on my leg, point to the big pool and say "big pool?" How can I refuse? He is already wanting to jump in but I'm loving being the one there to catch him!

Daddy likes to ride his bike over to join us and is doing an exceptional job at teaching Adam how to splash. Hmmmm, I hear a lot of lifeguard whistles in our future!!

With the promise of a bike ride home in his little trailer, getting Adam to exit the pool and dry off is made quite a bit easier.

I think we're in for a hot, but cool, summer!

Parent/Teacher conference...

On Friday we attended our fourth parent/teacher conference at Adam's school.  While it seemed a little silly when we went to our first one when Adam was at the ripe old age of 3 months, I definitely can appreciate them wanting to share with us the growth and development they see in our little guy on a daily basis.  Mostly it's just nice to really get a feel for what goes on at school everyday, and it's a great reminder that we've got an amazing son!

Here are some highlights from Ms. Nessie's report:
  • Adam walks around the classroom and points to his classmates and says their names, "C. C." for Cecilia, "G.G." for Gianna, and "Jackie" for Jacqueline.
  • Adam saw G.G. leaning over crying so he walks over to her, bends down putting his hand on her back and mumbles something to her. When Ms. Nessie asks if he's giving comfort to Gianna, Adam looks up, nods and smiles.
  • During clean up time, Adam is putting the toys away and one of the children was standing on a toy, Adam says "excuse me" then shouts out "move!" (hey, he's cleaning and is assertive, I'm ok with that!) ;)
  • Adam points to the clock on the wall and says "tick tock"
  • While singing "This Old Man" when they got to #3, Adam shout out the number 3 and holds up 3 fingers
  • He likes to play with trains and animals and makes the sounds for all of them. He also likes to build with legos or toys that he can put together.
  • As he sees Jackie leaving with her mom, Adam runs up, gives her a hug and tells her "bye bye"
Most importantly, Adam seems to love going to school and is always playing and having fun when Daddy goes to pick him up.  His teachers love him, he's got friends, and knowing all of that while I'm at work makes being a working Mom just a little easier...

A little...
