Spring Break - Part II - Tybee Island

We arrived on Tybee Island just in time to get set up so we could watch the final round of The Masters. The weather was beautiful and we could tell right away that we were going to really enjoy the campground and location of our vacation. Palm trees everywhere, a spacious campsite, two beaches just a bike ride away, and it seems Tybee Island brews their own beer - & I actually liked it!

Our weather was less than desirable for the week, but we did get one really warm and sunny day where we spent time at the beach and the pool. Adam made a friend at the beach which meant we got to sit back and watch him dig in the sand while we caught some rays.

The island is really adorable with lots of great restaurants and ice cream parlors that were easy to bike to. We stopped at one place that was known for their Bloody Mary's and Oysters - the reviews were right! So good. We also found some of the best pizza & calzones we've ever had. Tybee Island = Foodie Paradise!

Our campground was great with a lot of nice campers nearby. We even had some neighbors come and play corn hole with us a few times. Always love when you can interact with your fellow campers. Adam had a lot of fun playing outside with his bubbles, soccer ball, and any stick he could find - he's becoming quite the ninja!

I could definitely see us going back there again sometime - but we'll hope for less rain and more sunshine!

Spring Break - Part I

This year we decided to try a new destination out for our Spring Break - Tybee Island in Georgia. It's a bit of a drive so we broke the drive down into two stops. First stop was just a campground off of 95 right before the South Carolina border. It was a decent campground with putt putt golf & full hook ups - these are the important things in a campers life it seems.

Our next stop was Charleston, SC where we visited a colleague/friend of mine at his home on the water - not too shabby! His daughter was with him that weekend so Adam had a friend to play with. Their favorite activity was swimming in the "mini pool" a.k.a. the unheated hot tub. While they splashed we enjoyed some good eats, good drinks, and a lot of rounds of corn hole.

It was the perfect start to our Spring Break trip!

A 70th Birthday Celebration for Poppy!

Poppy turned 70 in April so of course we had to celebrate! With Ommy at the helm, we hosted a lovely dinner party at our house with roughly 35 friends & family in attendance. It was a wonderful party with everyone enjoying conversation, cocktails, and a spread of some amazing food.

One of the best parts was we had all 4 of Poppy's kids, all 8 grandkids, and 3 out of 4 inlaws in attendance - that doesn't happen nearly enough! We took advantage and snapped lots and lots of photos (can you believe the 7 grandsons all had striped button down shirts on? It was too funny and totally not planned!)

It's clear Poppy has lived quite a life and he has a tremendous family which I'm happy to be apart of and an eclectic and fun group of friends to show for it. Here's to many many more birthdays and candles to blow out in the future!!

Taking advantage...

So just as we were showered with random snowstorms throughout March, we were also given a few days of warmth and sunshine and the promise of a spring that would eventually come (and stay!) On those days - we took advantage by hitting up the park, walking to school, and getting out for bike rides (and buying a new bike as well!)

It was a long, hard winter, so these outdoor moments were well deserved!

Camping at Lake Anna...

The Virginia State Parks always close down for the winter (and with the winter we had, rightfully so) but come February we are always itching to get back to some of our favorite parks - only we have to wait until March 1. So, after all that waiting we were finally able to get back to Lake Anna for a rare "spring-like" weekend in March.

As per usual, Adam was over the moon. He loves that park as the sites prove to be perfect baseball diamonds. I think we each took turns pitching and hitting about a thousand times - Liddy of course played the perfect outfielder.

We also got in a picnic at Cooper Vineyards where they just happened to have corn hole set up. Adam had so much fun and it finally gave us the inspiration we needed to build our own set.

Liddy and I enjoyed a nice long walk to the lake to take in the views. It was warm enough I wanted to jump in (and of course Liddy would have in a heartbeat) but we decided to stay dry and think of weekends to come where the water might be a tad bit warmer! :)

It was the perfect first camping trip to one of our amazing VA State Parks for 2014!

(and then it snowed on Monday....)
